Description

San Gallo Escape is a delightful little anomaly: a former abbey brought back to life through careful restoration, where history is not a ‘theme’ but a tangible presence in the proportions, the walls and the atmosphere. You are right in the centre of Florence, yet slightly off the beaten track of mass tourism: the area is quiet, tidy and, above all, very safe (the proximity to the central police station is an added bonus, especially in the evening). Everything is within walking distance: the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is about 8 minutes away, while Florence Santa Maria Novella Station can be reached in 12-14 minutes. The great thing is that you don't have to plan: just step outside, turn the corner, and Florence begins.
The flat is located on the ground floor of an ancient building (dating back to 1400), which for centuries was home to a religious order. This detail is noticeable: the spaces have a particular calm, almost “protected”, as if the city remained just outside. It is an ideal solution for those who want to experience the historic centre as a resident, not as a passing visitor: in the morning, you can have a coffee and walk to museums, shops, markets and restaurants; in the evening, you can return without crossing chaotic areas.
The interior spaces are organised on two levels, and this is one of the smartest things about San Gallo Escape: it offers privacy and flexibility even for couples with friends, families or small groups. The second level is connected by an internal staircase, but can also be reached via the building's stairs (outside the flat, still inside the building), because it is in fact a second flat with independent access. Translated: if someone wants to wake up early and go out without disturbing anyone, or if part of the group wants a different pace, here you can do it. It is a home that can adapt to the real dynamics of a trip, without stress.
On the practical side, there is one fundamental thing to know: the flat is in the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) of the historic centre. If you arrive by car, the recommended solution is simple and tried and tested: park in the nearby garage at Via Venezia 20. The garage manages the communication of your number plate to the council to avoid fines: a standard procedure, but invaluable when you don't want any “surprises” after your trip. Important rule: after passing under a ZTL camera, you have 3 hours to get to the garage. The car park is very convenient (right in front of the property) and costs around £30-35 per night. Access is automatic: when you arrive, call the number and they will open the gate, or send a message and follow the instructions. In the centre of Florence, this convenience is worth its weight in gold — because it frees you from logistics and gives you back your time.
