Description
Villa Persefone
A contemporary Apulian lamia with infinity pool, one hectare of Mediterranean grounds and the quiet theatre of southern light
Villa Persefone is the more intimate sister of Villa Il Fiko: smaller in scale, softer in rhythm, but equally rooted in the new language of contemporary Apulian living. It carries the same architectural spirit — the modern lamia, the pale volumes, the clean lines, the dialogue between stone, glass and garden — yet it expresses it in a more private, almost contemplative way.
Set within approximately one hectare of private land, the villa is surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, native planting, citrus trees and the dry, fragrant vegetation that gives this part of southern Italy its unmistakable character. The garden is not ornamental in a formal sense. It feels natural, tactile and deeply connected to the land. Here, the scents are part of the architecture: citrus, rosemary, wild herbs, warm stone, summer dust and the green silence of the countryside.
At the centre of the outdoor experience is the 11 x 4 metre infinity pool. It is the visual heart of the property and one of Villa Persefone’s defining features. Long enough for a proper morning swim, elegant enough to frame the landscape, it stretches out towards the garden with a sense of calm precision. The infinity edge gives the pool a quiet theatricality: water meeting horizon, architecture dissolving into nature, the day reflected back in blue.
This is the kind of pool that changes the rhythm of a stay. Morning begins there, with a swim before coffee. The hottest hours are spent beside it, moving between shade and water. In the late afternoon, the surface becomes still and luminous, catching the soft light that belongs only to Puglia. By evening, it becomes almost cinematic, a dark mirror beside the house as dinner is prepared and the air begins to cool.
The architecture of Villa Persefone takes inspiration from the traditional lamia, one of the most recognisable rural forms of Apulian construction. Historically simple, protective and practical, the lamia has been reinterpreted here with a contemporary sensibility. The villa does not copy the past. It listens to it. The result is a home that feels modern, bright and deeply liveable, while remaining completely in tune with the rural identity of the region.
The interiors are conceived around light, proportion and ease. White and neutral tones, natural textures and generous openings create a sense of continuity between the house and the garden. Large glazed doors allow the rooms to breathe towards the outside, so that the villa never feels closed or static. The landscape is always present: through a window, across a terrace, beyond the pool, in the citrus trees and in the changing colour of the sky.
Villa Persefone offers 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, a configuration that makes the property both comfortable and highly practical. The bedrooms are designed as restful private spaces, each with a calm, contemporary atmosphere and a strong connection to the exterior. The scale is intimate, but not small. Each room has enough privacy to feel independent, while the communal areas invite guests to gather naturally throughout the day.
The presence of 4 bathrooms gives the villa a particularly comfortable rhythm for groups. It allows each bedroom to be well served while also providing an additional bathroom for daytime use, poolside returns and shared living. For a villa of this size, this is an important luxury: not ostentation, but ease. Guests can move between pool, terrace, bedroom and dinner without friction.
The living area is bright and relaxed, designed for slow mornings, quiet afternoons and informal evenings. It is a space where guests can read, talk, work lightly if needed, or simply retreat from the sun. High-speed Wi-Fi makes the villa suitable for those who need to stay connected, while the overall atmosphere encourages the opposite: fewer screens, longer conversations, more time outside.
The kitchen supports both independent stays and private chef services. Guests who enjoy the ritual of shopping locally can prepare simple meals with regional produce: tomatoes, burrata, stracciatella, olive oil, herbs, seasonal vegetables, fruit, fresh pasta and local wines. Others may prefer to hand the evening over to a private chef and let the villa become a small Apulian restaurant for the night. Villa Persefone is particularly well suited to this kind of private dining: intimate, atmospheric and beautifully connected to the outdoors.
The external areas are where the villa reveals its strongest personality. With one hectare of land around it, Villa Persefone offers privacy, breathing room and that essential Apulian feeling of being held by the countryside. The garden is large enough to create a true sense of retreat, but not so vast that it becomes impersonal. It remains human in scale, made for walking barefoot from bedroom to pool, from terrace to breakfast, from shade to sun.
Outdoor dining is central to the experience. In Puglia, meals are not simply taken outside because the weather allows it. They belong outside. Breakfast tastes different under a portico or on a terrace. Lunch becomes lighter, slower, more instinctive. Dinner begins before the food arrives, with the sound of glasses, the smell of herbs, the first evening breeze and the sense that nothing needs to happen quickly.
Villa Persefone is ideal for guests who want to explore Puglia without feeling compelled to leave every day. The great white towns of the Itria Valley, the Adriatic coast, olive groves, masserie, beach clubs, local markets and wine estates can all become part of the stay, but the villa itself is strong enough to be the destination. Some days may be dedicated to discovery. Others may be beautifully uneventful: pool, book, lunch, nap, swim, aperitivo, dinner under the sky.
The surrounding area offers the full grammar of Puglia: whitewashed villages, dry-stone walls, olive trees, vineyards, trulli, lamie, market towns, seaside restaurants and long roads between fields. Guests can visit Ostuni, Cisternino, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Alberobello, Ceglie Messapica, Monopoli, Polignano a Mare or Savelletri, depending on the villa’s exact itinerary and mood of the day. The region lends itself to both cultural wandering and sensory pleasure: architecture, food, wine, sea, craft and landscape.
Through Camisa Homes & Villas and Camisa Essential, the stay at Villa Persefone can be shaped with the right level of service. Camisa Essential is our concierge and lifestyle division, created to support guests before and during their stay with discreet, tailored and highly practical arrangements.
Before arrival, Camisa Essential can organise private transfers from Bari or Brindisi, car rental, grocery pre-stocking, wine selection, flowers, welcome arrangements and any family equipment required. For guests arriving after a long journey, this makes the first evening effortless. The villa can be prepared with water, fruit, breakfast products, local cheeses, olive oil, fresh bread, wine and essential groceries, so that arrival feels immediate and calm.
During the stay, guests may request private chef dinners, breakfast service, cooking classes, pizza nights, barbecue evenings, grocery replenishment, housekeeping support, laundry assistance, drivers, restaurant reservations, beach club bookings, boat days, guided visits, wine tastings, olive oil experiences, massage, yoga, Pilates, personal training or babysitting.
A private chef dinner at Villa Persefone would work particularly well because of the villa’s scale. It is intimate enough for the experience to feel personal, not performative. Menus can focus on Apulian ingredients: orecchiette, focaccia, burrata, seasonal vegetables, grilled fish, citrus, almonds, herbs and wines from Puglia and southern Italy. A dinner here should not feel over-designed. It should feel generous, simple, precise and deeply local.
Cooking classes are another natural fit. Guests can learn to make orecchiette, focaccia barese, fresh pasta or a seasonal Mediterranean menu. The experience can be relaxed and family-style, or more polished for a group of friends. It can begin with a visit to a local market or remain entirely in villa, depending on timing and preference.
Wellness also belongs easily to Villa Persefone. The garden and poolside setting are ideal for morning yoga, Pilates, breathwork, massage or a light fitness session. The calmness of the property, the privacy of the land and the measured architecture make the villa feel restorative without needing to label itself as a retreat. It is simply a place where the body slows down.
Villa Persefone is not a villa of grand gestures. Its luxury is more refined than that. It is found in proportion, silence, privacy, water, light and the ability to make every ordinary moment feel better composed. A swim before breakfast. A bedroom opening towards the garden. A shaded lunch. A glass of wine by the infinity pool. The smell of citrus in the evening air.
It is a contemporary Apulian lamia for those who want less noise and more atmosphere. Three bedrooms, four bathrooms, one hectare of Mediterranean grounds, an 11 x 4 metre infinity pool and a landscape that does not need to be explained.
A private house of water, stone, citrus and quiet southern light.
A place that feels like home, but with more horizon, more silence and the unmistakable poetry of Puglia.
